Volleyball-Serbia loses last match at World Championships

LODZ - Serbia lost to Iran 3-1 (27-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-18) in a Second Round Group E match at the Volleyball Men's World Championships in Poland on Sunday.

The players coached by Igor Kolakovic reeled to their fourth defeat against three victories at the championships, while the Iranians secured a Third Round spot with five wins and the second place in the group.

BANGALORE - India's Rohan Bopanna and Leander Paes defeated Nenad Zimonjic and Ilija Bozoljac 1-6, 7-6 (4-7), 6-3, 6-3, 8-6 in doubles in Bangalore Saturday, cutting Serbia's lead in the Davis Cup World Group Play-Off rubber to 2-1.

Sunday will see two singles matches, where Serbia's Dusan Lajovic and Filip Krajinovic will face India's Somdev Devvarman and Yuki Bhambri, respectively.

Tennis-Jovanovski fails to defend title in Tashkent

TASHKENT - Serbia's Bojana Jovanovski was unable to defend the title at the WTA tournament in Tashkent, losing it to Italy's Karin Knapp 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) in the final on Saturday.

From the very start of the match, it was clear that Jovanovski was not up to the task against the Italian who showed great determination to win.

Serbia beat France to reach Basketball World Cup final

MADRID - Serbia is in the final of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup after beating France 90-85 (21-15, 25-17, 15-14, 29-39) in the semifinals in Madrid on Friday.

The players coached by former basketball star Aleksandar Djordjevic will play defending champions United States in the Sunday final.

Serbia also beat European champions Spain during the tournament.

Serbia takes 2-0 lead over India in Davis Cup

BANGALORE - Serbia is within easy reach of survival in the Davis Cup World Group, since it has a 2-0 lead over India after the first day of the 2014 Play-Offs rubber on Friday.

Serbia was given a 1-0 lead by Dusan Lajovic, who defeated Yuki Bhambri 6-3, 6-2, 7-5, and it was increased by Filip Krajinovic beating Somdev Devvarman 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

TASHKENT - Serbia's Bojana Jovanovski secured her spot in the semifinals of the WTA tournament in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, after defeating Poland's Urszula Radwanska, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 on Thursday.

Jovanovski will fight for a place in the final against home favorite Nigina Abduraimova, which beat her compatriot Akgul Amanmuradova 6-3, 6-3.

Krunic, Siniakova reach doubles semis in Tashkent

TASHKENT - Aleksandra Krunic of Serbia and Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic advanced to the semifinals of the doubles event at the Tashkent Open WTA Championships, after beating Lara Arruabarrena of Spain and Mandy Minella of Luxembourg 6-7 (7-5), 3-6, 10-2 on Thursday.

Krunic and Siniakova will next face Akgul Amanmuradova from Uzbekistan and Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine.

GRANADA - The Serbian men's shooting team, composed of Stevan Pletikosic, Milenko Sebic and Nemanja Mirosavljev, won the bronze medal in a men's team rifle event at the World Championships in Granada on Wednesday.

The shooters reached the second medal for Serbia finishing in 1868.4 points.

Jovanovski in quarterfinals in Tashkent

TASHKENT - Serbia's Bojana Jovanovski beat Russia's Ala Kudriavtseva 7(8)-6 3-6 6-3 on Wednesday to reach the quarterfinals of the WTA tournament in Tashkent.

Jovanovski is the top seed at the event and the defending champion.

Her next opponent will be Ursula Radwanska from Poland or Dona Vekic from Croaita.

Serbian women's shooting team wins bronze in Granada

GRANADA - Serbia won bronze in the Women's 10m Air Rifle team event at the world shooting championship in Granada, Spain.

Team Serbia comprising Andrea Arsovic, Ivana Maksimovic and Katarina Bisercic won the bronze medal with a score of 1,244.3.

The gold medal went to Germany (1,253.6), and silver to the national team of China (1,250.5).

Serbian teams win three prizes at Microsoft competition

BELGRADE - Serbian teams have won three prizes at the international Bubble Cup, one of Serbia's most prestigious competitions for IT experts.

This year's final, held on September 5-7, featured 24 teams - 10 from Serbia and the rest from Poland, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Great Britain and Croatia.
