BELGRADE -- Despite earlier announcements, world No. 1 tennis player Novak Đoković will not play for Serbia in the Davis Cup tie against India next week.
Serbia must win the round in order to stay in the World Group.
Serbian team coach Bogdan Obradović said on Sunday that Đoković would not be going to India.
Serbia reaches world championship quarterfinals
MADRID - Serbia defeated Greece 90-72 (23-20 23-22 18-13 26-17) in Spain on Sunday to reać the quarterfinals of the basketball world ćampionship.
The team led by Aleksandar Đorđevic managed to stage a surprise win after finishing fourth in group A with a score of 2 wins and 3 lošes. Greece won all 5 games in group B.
Novak Djokovic through to US Open semi-finals
NEW YORK - Serbia's Novak Djokovic is through to his eighth consecutive US Open semi-final after beating Great Britain's Andy Murray 7-6 (7-1), 6-7 (1-7), 6-2, 6-4 in New York early Thursday.
In the semi-final, the current world number one in men's tennis will face Kei Nishikori of Japan, who beat Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (9-7), 6-7 (5-7), 6-4.
Djokovic to lead Serbia in clash with India
BELGRADE - The world's number one tennis player Novak Djokovic will lead Serbia's team against India in a playoff clash for staying in the World Group that will take place in Bangalore from September 12-14.
Besides Djokovic, head coach Bogdan Obradovic chose Dusan Lajovic, Filip Krajinovic and Nenad Zimonjic for the match against India.

Jankovic was ousted in the singles competition earlier, after losing to Belinda Bencic from Switzerland 7(6)-6, 6-3 in the 4th round on Sunday.
Jelena Jankovic ousted in 4th round
NEW YORK - Serbia's Jelena Jankovic lest to Belinda Bencic from Switzerland 6(8)-6 6-3 in the 4th round of the US Open on Monday.
That match took two hours and the win made Bancic the second youngest quarterfinalist of in the history of the US Open, behind compatriot Martina Hingis, who was six months younger when she won the tournament back in 1997.
