Pahor receives crew of first feature film in independent Slovenia
Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor hosted on Wednesday the creators of the first feature film in independent Slovenia, Babica gre na jug (Grandma Goes South), saying that the reception in the Presidential Palace sent a message that the period of independence efforts had also been the time of major cultural events.
Biggest Floating Castle festival brings touch of magic
Ljubljana – Snežnik Castle will host Floating Castle, four days of music, dance, theatre and more in what is the largest festival in its nine-year history. A magical outdoor location under Mount Snežnik in south-western Slovenia will come alive with more than 120 musical groups and 400 artists from around the globe from 22 to 25 July.
MFRR report finds media in Slovenia systematically undermined by govt
Ljubljana – The Slovenian government is overseeing an increasingly systematic effort to undermine critical media, a coalition of press freedom organisations and journalism groups warned in a report released on Wednesday after conducting a virtual fact-finding mission to Slovenia in late May and early June.
15th Mountain Film Festival kicks off
Domžale – The 15th Mountain Film Festival starts on Monday in Domžale near Ljubljana, featuring 33 films from 19 countries in four categories: mountaineering, climbing, mountain nature and culture, and sports and adventure. The festival, concluding on Sunday, will bring a plethora of productions on wild animals and epic stories from the Himalayas.
DNS launches platform for reporting attacks on journalists
Ljubljana – The Slovenian Journalist Association (DNS) has launched a platform for reporting attacks on journalists that will keep track and monitor such attacks as well as raise awareness about the issue. The platform will record reports of physical as well as verbal attacks and threats, the DNS said.

Fundraising campaign for STA ending
Ljubljana – A month-long fundraising campaign by the Association of Slovenian Journalists (DNS), which has raised EUR 264,500 for the Slovenian Press Agency (STA), is coming to a close. Donations via SMS are no longer possible, but if anyone wishes to donate, they could still do that by bank transfer until the end of June.
European Shooting Championship: Romania wins bronze in 10m air rifle
Romania won the bronze medals in women's 10m air rifle on Tuesday at the European Shooting Championship in Osijek, Croatia. Laura-Georgeta Ilie (626.7 points), Roxana Sidi (626 points) and Eliza Alexandra Molnar (618.8 points) reached the final of eight following Monday's contests, totaling 1,871.5 points.
European journalism organisations on virtual mission to Slovenia
Ljubljana – The Media Freedom Rapid Response (MFRR), an initiative funded by the European Commission that monitors violations of press and media freedom, will be on a virtual mission to Slovenia over the next two weeks to examine alleged deterioration in media freedom in the country. The findings are to be released in July.
