Klemeničič to carry Slovenian flag at Olympic closing ceremony
Beijing – Cross-country skier Anita Klemenčič will carry the Slovenian flag at the closing ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games on Sunday. The only other Slovenian athlete to attend will be her cross-country teammate Neža Žerjav with the remaining members of Team Slovenia already at home or on their way there.
Ski jumper Zajc 6th on large hill at Beijing Olympics
Beijing – Slovenian ski jumper Timi Zajc finished 6th in the men’s individual event on the large hill at the Winter Olympics in Beijing on Saturday, as Norway’s Marius Lindvik won the gold medal. Three other Slovenians finished in the top 12 jumpers, setting up the stage for Monday’s team event in which Slovenia will be going for a medal.
Tadej Pogačar recovers from Covid-19
Ljubljana – Slovenia’s top cyclist Tadej Pogačar tested positive for Covid-19 but had only mild symptoms. He has already returned to training and should be ready in time for his first race of the season, his team UAE Emirates said on Tuesday.
“Fir his safety and the safety of the broader community, he isolated and recovered before returning to light training,” the team said.
Hrovat 7th in women’s giant slalom in Beijing
Beijing – Slovenia’s Meta Hrovat placed 7th in the women’s giant slalom at the Winter Olympics in Beijing on Monday, finishing 1.35 seconds behind the gold medal winner, Sara Hector of Sweden.
Hector, who was in the lead also after the first run, was followed by Italy’s Federica Brignone for silver and Lara Gut-Behrami of Switzerland for bronze.
Kline 10th in Olympic men’s downhill for Slovenia’s best
Beijing – Boštjan Kline placed 10th in the Olympic men’s downhill for what is the best ever achievement for Slovenian male alpine skiers in the discipline. Out of three Slovenians to appear in the flagship Alpine skiing event at the racecourse called The Rock at Xiaohaitu, Kline did best, finishing a 1.06 second behind the winner.
