30-year-old man attacked by bear near Pivka

Pivka – A 30-year-old local was attacked by a bear in the woods near the village of Zagorje, south of Pivka (SE), on Monday evening. The man has been taken to the UKC Ljubljana hospital, but there is no official information about his condition yet.

Over 200 new coronavirus cases on Monday

Ljubljana – A total of 216 people tested positive for coronavirus in Slovenia on Monday, the first time since 8 June that the daily count passed 200, as nearly 12% of the tests came back positive, official data show.

Bike path launched between Slovenia EU presidency hub and Kranj

Kranj – A month after the start of the Slovenian EU presidency, a cycle route was launched running between the northern town of Kranj and Brdo pri Kranju, the main venue for presidency-related events. To honour Slovenia’s second stint at the helm of the Council of the EU, Kranj will also plant trees along the lane in the autumn.

Slovenia introducing digital PLFs for air and sea passengers

Ljubljana – All passengers arriving in Slovenia by plane or ship will need to fill out a Digital Passenger Locator Form (dPLF) before entering the country starting from 16 August, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has announced.

The form makes it easier to track contacts in cases where passengers are exposed to a communicable disease during their journey.

Ljubljana – The Slovenian team for the 2020 Summer Paralympics, which will take place in Tokyo between 24 August and 5 September, presented itself to the press in Ljubljana on Monday. Brnik – The Slovenian men’s basketball team returned to the homeland on Sunday afternoon after winning the 4th place at the Summer Olympics. They were greeted at Ljubljana airport by some 500 fans and senior sport officials, who expressed gratitude for the unbelievable result for the team that made its Olympic debut in Tokyo.

Growth in Covid infections continues

Ljubljana – Slovenia reported 46 new coronavirus cases for Sunday as the week-on-week rise in infections continued. The 7-day average of new cases rose by two to 118 and the cumulative 14-day incidence per 100,000 residents increased by one to 68.

Slovenia’s goods exports in June up 21% year-on-year

Ljubljana, 9 August – Slovenia exported EUR 3.3 billion in goods in June, which is 21% more year-on-year, while imports were up by 30.6% to EUR 3.4 billion, the Statistics Office reported on Monday.

In June, a deficit in trade was recorded for a third month in a row, standing at EUR 100 million, with exports covering imports at a rate of 97.5%.

Tokyo Games most successful Summer Olympics for Slovenia yet

Tokyo – Slovenian athletes participating in the 32nd Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo have won three gold medals, the largest number at any Olympics, summer or winter, since independence. With three golds, one silver and one bronze, the medal tally is the best for Slovenia at Summer Games yet.

Slovenian firefighters defend minefield from flames in N Macedonia

Skopje – Slovenian firefighters helping in the effort to put out wildfires in North Macedonia have protected buildings close to the eastern village of Budinarci from flames. With the help of a helicopter, they are also fighting a fire that has spread toward a minefield, the Civil Protection and Disaster Relief Administration has said.

Coronavirus epidemic keeps spreading

Ljubljana – Slovenia logged 68 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, an increase of 17% from the same day a week ago, as 8.8% of the 776 PCR tests came back positive. Two Covid-19 patients died, official data shows.

The National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) estimates that there are now 1,454 active cases in the country, 36 more than the day before.

Prices of flats in Ljubljana up almost 50% in five years

Ljubljana – The prices of old flats in multi-storey buildings in Ljubljana rose by 48% in the period from 2015 to 2020, after the downward price trend reversed in 2015. The median price per square metre reached nearly EUR 3,000 last year. At EUR 2,960, it was record for a third year in a row and 69% above the median price for entire Slovenia.

Govt says Slovenia complies with directive on non-EU citizens and property

Ljubljana – The government has adopted a response to the European Commission’s warning that Slovenia does not comply with a directive on the status of non-EU citizens who are long-term residents and their right to buy property. The government argues the Slovenian law is not in breach of the directive as it allows this group to rent housing.
