Kustec discusses research, AI, digitalisation with Vestager
Ljubljana – Education Minister Simona Kustec and Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Margrethe Vestager discussed via video call on Monday Slovenia’s EU presidency agenda in digitalisation and artificial intelligence. The pair agreed that people must come first, and that AI and digitalisation must serve the society.
Gatherings of up to 100 people allowed again and outdoor hospitality reopens
Ljubljana – Slovenians can look forward to partial easement of two of the perhaps most disapproved pandemic restrictions on Monday. The months-long assemblies ban will be abolished, as gatherings of up to 100 people will be allowed, and outdoor hospitality will reopen after nearly six months in most of the country.
Finance finds planned tax reform unambitious
Ljubljana – The business newspaper Finance believes the tax reform drafted by the Finance Ministry is far from ambitious, even though it says in its commentary on Monday that any reform is better than none.
The proposal has not left the ministry yet and it might not be adopted in its current form or at all, the paper says under the headline Tax Reform – Better Some than None?
New head of EU Representation in Slovenia says recovery plan should be forward-looking
Ljubljana – Jerneja Jug Jerše, the new head of the European Commission’s Representation in Slovenia, considers a national recovery and resilience plan an opportunity for a country to step up. The Commission will borrow funds that will have to be repaid by future generations, so the plan should be focused on the future, she has told the STA.
Gatherings of up to 100 people allowed from Monday
Ljubljana – Gatherings of up to 100 people indoor or outdoor will be permitted under a government decree adopted on Friday in response to a Constitutional Court decision staying the blanket ban on public assembly.
Indoor up to 100 people will be able to gather, assuming there is at least 30 square metres of space per person or per members of one household. Masks will be mandatory.
Janša tells Džaferović there is no Slovenian non-paper
Ljubljana – Slovenian PM Janez Janša rang up Šefik Džaferović, the Bosniak member of the Bosnia-Herzegovina presidency, on Friday to explain that there is no non-paper containing border changes or efforts to undermine Bosnia-Herzegovina’s territorial integrity that could be linked with the Slovenian government.

Sustainable financing of Slovenia’s media endangered, says Jourova
Brussels – Prime Minister Janez Janša does not take the international reputation of Slovenia seriously enough, European Commission Vice President for Values and Transparency Vera Jourova has told news portal Euractiv. Sustainable financing of the media in Slovenia is endangered, particularly when it comes to the Slovenian Press Agency (STA), she said.
