Balkans Migrant Route Practically Closed, Serbia Says

Serbia announced on Tuesday that the so-called Balkans route used by migrants to reach western Europe will be de-facto closed following Slovenia's decision to deny entry into the EU's free-travel Schengen zone to migrants without valid visas and passports, Tanjug reported.

Slovenia First to Implement EU-Turkey Refugee Deal

The Serbian Ministry of Interior said Slovenia will not accept any more migrants who attempt to enter its territory without valid visas and passports.

The information, passed to Serbia by counterparts from Croatia on Tuesday, cements the
de-facto closure of the so-called Balkan refugee route.

EU, Turkey Agree in Principle to Curb Migrant Flow into Europe

Brussels and Ankara on Tuesday agreed in principle to curb the migrant flow from Turkey into Europe, in return for additional aid to Turkey.

No final decision has been taken yet, and a new EU meeting will come up with a final position on March 17-18.

"4,500-year-old artifacts left behind in migrant camp"

The police have found statuettes of historic and artistic value among the items discarded by refugees in a camp in Slovenia.

According to Slovenian media, cited by the Croatian website Index, three statuettes from the Sumerian era were found in the camp located near the Gruskovje-Macelj border crossing.

Greece says up to 70,000 migrants may be 'trapped' next month

Greece on Feb. 28 said the tally of refugees and migrants on its soil could more than triple next month, reaching as many as 70,000 people, as a cap on border crossings by Balkan countries left them "trapped" in the country.

"We estimate that in our country the number of those trapped will be from 50,000-70,000 people next month", Migration Minister Yiannis Mouzalas said.
