Centuries-old orchestra instruments on display in Ankara

Instruments that have been used by the Presidential Symphony Orchestra (CSO) throughout its nearly 200-year history, various documents and belongings of the orchestra are presented to the visitors at the CSO1826 Exhibition Area in Turkish capital Ankara.

Ancient Greek tragedy ‘Medea’ on stage

Under the direction of the world-famous Albanian artist Adonis Filipi, the İzmir State Theater's actors are rehearsing to present the play "Medea," which was first staged in 432 B.C., to the audience.

Written by Euripides, the ancient Greek tragedy "Medea" will meet the audience again in modern halls, ancient theaters and international festivals in İzmir.

Veteran Turkish actor Kadir İnanır taken to intensive care

One of Turkey's most prominent actors, Kadir İnanır, was taken to intensive care in southwestern Turkey over blood clotting in a brain vein on Nov. 20.

The 72-year old actor fell ill in the Ortaca district of Aegean Muğla province and was taken to Pamukkale University Medical Faculty Hospital in the neighboring Denizli province.

Istanbul Modern makes joint project with Sharjah Art Foundation

Istanbul Modern has signed a multi-year partnership with the Sharjah Art Foundation in the United Arab Emirates.

The first part of this collaboration, titled "Her Journey," designed by Istanbul Modern Cinema, will be screened at Sharjah Film Platform 4, which started on Nov. 19 and will continue through Nov. 27.

Atatürk Cultural Center welcomes 100,000 visitors in two weeks

The Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM), which reopened its doors in late October after comprehensive renovation work, has welcomed 100,000 people in just two weeks.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan inaugurated Istanbul's landmark structure on Oct. 29, which marked the 98th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic of Turkey.

Ekin Bernay to perform at V&A Museum

Turkey's international performance art platform Performistanbul's artist Ekin Bernay will stage her new 33-minute performance, titled 'Atlas,' at the Raphael Court of the V&A Museum within the scope of the Friday Late on Nov 26.

The performance has been inspired by the composition of Seikilos Epitaph, the oldest surviving musical composition.

Bursa to host international photographers

The 11th Bursa International Photography Festival (Bursa FotoFest), organized with the cooperation of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and Bursa Photography Art Association (BUFSAD), will be held from Nov. 19 to 28 with the participation of photographers from different regions.

The theme of this year's festival will be "Eye to Eye."

Famous Turkish fashion designer dies of cancer

Bahar Korçan, Turkey's well-known fashion designer who opened the country's first fashion design office in 1993, died on Nov. 11 at the age of 57. 

The designer, who made clothes for Turkey's many acclaimed artists, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2016 and had been under treatment since then.

Istanbul to host traditional shadow plays

Within the scope of the much-awaited fifth edition of the Istanbul Karagöz Festival that will kick off tomorrow, a famous traditional Turkish shadow theater will be staged for Istanbul residents in the upcoming week.

The festival, which will last until Nov. 21, aims to make the art of shadow play more visible and bring all the colors of this historical tradition to audiences.

German conductor to perform, give training in Turkey

German conductor Frieder Bernius is set to perform in Turkey, the Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry announced on Nov. 4.

Bernius, the founder and director of Kammerchor Stuttgart (Stuttgart Chamber Choir), will lead a series of concerts and training in Istanbul and the capital Ankara.

Mark Eliyahu on Istanbul stage

As part of his world tour 'Endless,' composer and kamancheh master Mark Eliyahu will be at Zorlu PSM Turkcell Stage on Nov 19.

The musician will be accompanied by his father, musician, composer, musicologist and tar master Piris Eliyahu, as well as Rony Iwryn on percussion, Haim Weiss on keyboards, and Adi Rotem on guitar and keyboards on stage.

Italy honors general director of Turkish Opera and Ballet

Murat Karahan, tenor and general director of the Turkish Opera and Ballet (DOB), has been awarded the Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy.

A ceremony was held at the Italian Embassy in Ankara to present the award. Italy's Ambassador to Ankara Massimo Gaiani said that Karahan is a world-renowned artist and is followed with great admiration in Italy.
