Some 35,000 Turks celebrated their birthday on Feb. 29, four years after their last birthday, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

'Spotlight' team talks investigative journalism ahead of Oscars

"Spotlight," one of the strongest candidates at this year's Oscars, has already been hailed as one of the best ever movies on journalism. The movie covers the story of the Boston Globe's investigative Spotlight unit, which earned the daily the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for its reporting on child sex abuse in the Boston area by Roman Catholic priests.

Franco-Turkish director's debut wins four Cesars

Franco-Turkish director Deniz Gamze Ergüven's film "Mustang" won four awards at the Cesar film awards in Paris on late Feb. 26.      

The film, which focuses on five teenage sisters living in rural northern Turkey, won awards for best debut film, best original screenplay, best original music and best editing at the 41st Cesar ceremony at the Theatre du Chatelet.      

Ankara Music Festival in April

The 33rd International Ankara Music Festival will be held between April 4 and 30 with the participation of nearly 360 artists from Turkey and around the world, according to a written statement from the organizer of the festival, the Sevda-Cenap And Music Foundation. 

Film Festival to hold special screenings for Syrian migrants in Turkey's southeast

The 15th !f Istanbul Independent Film Festival will hold special screenings in Turkey's southeastern provinces for Syrian refugees, starting from Feb. 26.

Five selected films will be screened with Arabic subtitles in 11 different locations in Gaziantep and ?anl?urfa, as a part of an event coordinated by the K?rkayak Kültür cultural center in Gaziantep. 

Chris de Burgh comes to Istanbul

British-Irish singer Chris de Burgh will perform at Istanbul's Ülker Sports Arena on Feb. 28. 

Most known for his 1986 love song "Lady in Red," De Burgh has sold over 45 million albums worldwide. The song became a number one hit in the U.K. and its accompanying album, "Into the Light," reached number two in the U.K. 

Hezarfen to perform Mark Andre works

The Pera Museum in collaboration with Goethe-Institut Istanbul will present a special "Long Friday Concert." Hezarfen Ensemble will perform composer Mark Andre's works on Feb. 26.  

Swedish actor Skarsgård comes to Istanbul as guest of !f Gala Film event

An instant phenomenon as vampire Eric Northman in "True Blood," Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård will be in Turkey for the first time as a guest of !f Istanbul. 

The star of the !f Gala film "The Diary of a Teenage Girl" will also attend a festival talk on Feb. 21 to speak about his acting career.

Festival calls for young jazz musicians

The 23rd Istanbul Jazz Festival, organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV), is calling for young jazz musicians to take the stage at a special festival event to be held in July. 

'!f Istanbul unites!' in Turkey and abroad

The !f Istanbul Independent Film Festival celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. The festival launches today and will come to Ankara and ?zmir on March 3 and 6 The !f Istanbul Independent Film Festival will take place from Feb. 18-28 in Istanbul, and on March 3 and 6 in Ankara and ?zmir.

Ane Brun once again Istanbul

The Norwegian representative of Scandinavian music, indie musician Ane Brun will perform in Istanbul once again after her concert in 2014.
 
Organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (?KSV), the concert will be held on April 1 at Salon IKSV. 

Hamlet adaptations at Ankara Film Festival

The 27th Ankara International Film Festival will bring film versions of William Shakespeare's classic tragedy "Hamlet" to the big screen.

In a section titled "There is Something Rotten in the World," Hamlet adaptations shot over the years in five different countries - Yugoslavia, Germany, Finland, France and Britain - will be screened at the festival.
