Syrian migrants in Turkey have begun establishing homes in Turkey, helping the home appliance sector to flourish during a downturn that traditionally accompanies an election period, said the head of a sector association. 

17-year-old migrant killed in shootout at sea with Greek police

A 17-year-old migrant was killed during a shootout at sea between Greek port police and human smugglers, the government said late Aug. 29.

"A serious incident occurred off the island of Symi when a yacht carrying 70 migrants from Turkey's western shores tried to illegally enter [Greek waters]," the Marine Ministry said in a statement.

Bulgarian PM Calls on World Leaders to Solve Refugee Crisis

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov called on world leaders to sit together and come up with a solution to the refugee crisis.

Borisov insisted that urgent measures should be taken to address the source of the refugee wave, namely the destabilised states in Africa and the Arab world.

According to him, this was not in the capacity of Bulgaria to deal with.

Polls show Turkey's AKP short of votes needed to form government alone

Three polls recently conducted in Turkey show the Justice and Development Party (AKP) will fall short of the votes needed to form a single-party government in a snap election on Nov. 1.

According to pollster Metropoll?s latest survey, the AKP stands at 41.7 percent of the votes, up from 40.9 percent in the June 7 election.

Bulgarian army steps in to buttress Macedonia border

Bulgaria's army stepped in on Aug. 25 to buttress the southwestern border with Macedonia, which has been hit in recent days by an unprecedented influx of migrants.

Twenty-five soldiers and light armored vehicles will be deployed at Bulgaria's four border checkpoints with Macedonia, a defense ministry operations and training deputy chief told public BNR radio.
