Deaf athletes honored at Maximos Mansion

Greek athletes, coaches and sports officials who took part in the recent 2017 Summer Deaflympics, an international event at which deaf sportspeople compete at an elite level, were on Tuesday invited to the Maximos Mansion by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras who congratulated them.

National deaf women's team on top of the world

Greece's national women's team won gold in basketball at the Deaflympics held in Turkey on Saturday.

The Greeks, who also are the European champions since last summer, triumphed 67-50 at the final against Lithuania to climb to the top of the world at the event for the hearing-impaired athletes.

The 23rd Deaflympics in Turkey's Samsun close

The 23rd Deaflympics, which began on July 18 in the coastal Black Sea province of Samsun with more than 3,000 athletes from 97 countries participating, concluded on July 30.

Turkey bagged 39 medals at the event, including 14 golds, six silvers and 19 bronzes, according to the official website of the 2017 Deaflympics.

International Sports Tournament For People With Disabilities Took Place in Kyustendil

An international sports tournament for people with disabilities took place in Kyustendil.

More than 200 participants took part, representing Poland, Turkey, Macedonia and Bulgaria, reported BNT.

The tournament is part of a year-long project run by the "START" association for people with disabilities from Poznan, Poland.

Fatih Terim steps down as Turkish national football team coach

Fatih Terim, the coach of the Turkish national football team, resigned from his post on July 26. 

Turkish Football Federation (TFF) Chief Yıldırım Demirören confirmed the report, saying that the decision to resign was a mutual consensus.

In a statement on its website, the federation cited "non-football related topics" as "wearing out" both Terim and the TFF.

No Serbians among injured in Greece-Turkey quake - MFA

BELGRADE - There are no Serbian nationals among those injured in the earthquake that hit Greece and Turkey early Friday, the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed to Tanjug.

"We maintain permanent contact with the embassies in Greece and Turkey and, according to information available so far, there are no Serbian nationals among the injured," the ministry said.

Turkey takes underwater hockey crown for 2nd time

Turkish U23 men's team emerged victorious on July 21, 4th World Age Group Underwater Hockey Championships held in Hobart, Australia. 

Turkey beat France by a score of 3-1 in the championship final. The under-23-years-of-age team finished the group stage in first place, beat Argentina in the quarter-finals 12-0, and beat Colombia 2-0 in the semi-finals.

 It is extremely difficult for German companies to make investments in Turkey under the current political climate in the country, German Economy Minister Brigitte Zypries said on Thursday.

Turkey all set for 23rd Summer Deaflympics in Samsun

The 23rd Summer Deaflympics started on July 18 in Turkey's Black Sea province of Samsun, where more than 3,000 athletes from 97 countries - the highest ever number of participants in the event's history - are competing. 

Around 1,500 volunteers are carrying out duties during the event, of whom 250 are deaf. In addition, 500 sign language translators will work at the event.

Turkey wins European wheelchair basketball championship

The men's wheelchair basketball team of Turkey ranked first at the European Wheelchair Basketball Championship in the Spanish coastal city of Tenerife on June 30, according to official IWBF Europe website. 

Turkey has won every quarter to beat the Britain, 76-69.  This is the first championship of Turkey at Europe's Wheelchair Basketball event. 

Turkish men's team to take on Great Britain in European Wheelchair Basketball Championship final

The Turkish men's national wheelchair basketball team has reached the European Wheelchair Basketball Championship and will face Great Britain, a team they had beaten in the group stage, in the final on June 30. 

The Turkish team had knocked out Germany in the semi-final in Tenerife, Italy.

Turkey, unbeaten in the five group stage games, also beat Italy in the quarter-final.

Greece reaches its first women's Eurobasket semi

Greece's women thrashed Turkey by 29 points on Thursday and made it to the semifinals of the 2017 Eurobasket in the Czech Republic as well as to the next World Championship.
