The German Foreign Ministry released a briefing stating that the German Embassy in Ankara, Turkey and its Consulate General in Constantinople had been shut down, following an unconfirmed threat of an imminent attack. According to the announcement of the German school in Constantinople was closed for security reasons.

Turkish president appoints former NBA star as adviser

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an appointed March 15 Hidayet Türko?lu, a former basketball star, as one of his senior advisers, a presidential office source has said.

Türko?lu, the first Turkish-born player to play in the NBA, has been recruited to give advice on sports.

Bulgaria Records First Victory in U18 Ice Hockey World Championship

Bulgaria recorded its first victory in the U18 ice hockey world championship Division III Group A, which is taking place in Sofia.

After losing 3-4 in the opening match to Australia on Monday,  Bulgaria defeated Mexico with 4-2 on Tuesday.

In its next matches, Bulgaria will face successively Taiwan on Thursday, Israel on Friday and Turkey on Sunday.

UEFA bans Galatasaray for one year

The top football authority in Europe, UEFA, has banned Turkey's Galatasaray from continental cups for one year after the Istanbul side failed to fulfill the financial fair play requirements. 

The ban will be valid from the first year that Galatasaray, now 16 points behind leader Fenerbahçe in the Spor Toto Super League, gains the right to join a European cup. 

Galatasaray parts ways with coach Denizli

Galatasaray, which lost 2-0 against lowly Gaziantepspor over the weekend and is now 16 points behind Turkish Super League leaders Fenerbahçe, announced yesterday that it has part ways with coach Mustafa Denizli. 

The Lions were also knocked out of the Europa League last week.  

Fenerbahçe beats sole rival, reclaims top spot

Fenerbahçe reclaimed top spot in Turkey's Spor Toto Super Lig on Feb. 29 after a 2-0 home victory over city rivals Be?ikta? at the ?ükrü Saraço?lu Stadium, moving two points ahead of the Black and Whites.

Winger Volkan ?en scored the first goal of the game just three minutes in. 

The home side dominated the first half but both sides failed to score another goal.

Turkey's Be?ikta? signs with Istanbul-born Armenian talent Özbiliz

Turkey's Be?ikta? said in a filing to the stock exchange on Jan. 20 that it is in talks with Aras Özbiliz, the rising Armenian star of Russia's Spartak Moscow. However, the title contender does not plan to enroll the Istanbul-born midfielder this season, but send him on loan to Spain's Getafe, according to sources.
