A 2,100-year-old marble mother goddess sculpture of Kybele has been unearthed during excavations in the Black Sea province of Ordu's Kurul Castle, one of the first archaeological digs in the region.

The 110-centimeter sculpture was found during excavations carried out by 25 archaeologists under the direction of Gazi University Archaeology Department Professor Süleyman Yücel.

Turkish economic growth slows in second quarter amid fall in investments, foreign demand

Turkish gross domestic product grew by 3.1 percent in the second quarter of 2016, lower than forecasts of around 3.4 percent, amid a decline in industrial investments and foreign demand, data from the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜİK) showed on Sept. 9. 

Turkey's GDP growth was 3.9 percent in the first half of the year. 

First plane lands at Turkey's Hakkari airport after closure due to attacks

The first passenger plane in 13 months has landed at Selahaddin Eyyubi Airport in the Yüksekova district of the eastern province of Hakkari, following a long hiatus due to clashes between the Turkish state and the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

Rocket projectile fired from Syria hits border province of Kilis

A rocket projectile fired from an Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)-controlled region in Syria hit an olive orchard in the border province of Kilis early on Sept. 9, Doğan News Agency has reported.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage in the attack.
