The Hasankeyf Culture and Arts Festival was scheduled to be held next month in the southeastern city of Batman, where a trustee has been appointed to replace the mayor. The four-to-five-day festival has been organized for almost 10 years. Its aim was to draw attention to the ancient town of Hasankeyf, which will soon be under the waters collected by the Ilısu Dam. 

Turkey 'so far reliable partner' in refugee crisis

Turkey is the EU's "reliable partner" in tackling the refugee crisis, European Parliament President Martin Schulz said.      

Reaffirming his support for the EU-Turkey deal on migration implemented in March, Schulz dismissed the suggestion that the agreement was close to breaking down following a series of public disputes between Turkish and EU figures.

Ancient seal found in Tatarlı Mound

Excavations at Tatarlı Mound in the southern province of Adana's Ceyhan district have unearthed an impression seal from a monumental Hittite-era structure. The seal contains information from about 3,000 years ago. The female name "Pati" was also found on the seal. 

İzmir to celebrate European Mobility Week

Plevne Boulevard in İzmir will be closed to traffic on Sept. 22 as part of "İzmir Vehicle-Free Day," as the Aegean port becomes the only city from Turkey to participate in European Mobility Week alongside 1,178 cities from 35 countries.

Hours before truce, Assad vows to retake all of Syria

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad vowed to retake all of Syria from "terrorists," hours before a truce brokered by Russia and the United States was due to take hold on Sept. 12.

Speaking in Daraya, a former rebel stronghold recently surrendered to the government, Assad said "the Syrian state is determined to recover every area from the terrorists," state media reported.

Soldier wounded in ISIL attack on Turkish tank in Syria dies

A soldier, who was wounded in an Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) rocket attack targeting a Turkish tank in Syria, succumbed to his injuries on Sept. 11, marking the eighth Turkish casualty since the launch of the anti-ISIL incursion.
