Turkey's transportation minister has weighed in on a debate which started slightly over a week ago, after Turkish daily Sözcü printed a photo of his son playing roulette at a Singapore casino, expressing his disbelief in the "innocence" of the story while stressing he lacked the evidence to accuse a particular individual. 

Turkish press still 'not free,' says Freedom House

Turkey continued to be defined as "not free" in U.S.-based think tank Freedom House's 2016 report on press freedom, with its score going up six points and thus signifying a "deteriorating" trend. 

Turkey is among the countries that "suffered the largest declines" over 2015, along with Bangladesh, Burundi, France, Serbia, Yemen, Egypt, Macedonia, and Zimbabwe.

Three wounded in PKK attack in Turkey's east

Three soldiers were wounded in an attack by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants in the eastern province of Van early on April 27. 

The militants attacked an armored army vehicle on patrol with home-made explosives, after the rocket they launched missed the vehicle at around 5 a.m.

13 ISIL militants killed in Turkish shelling in northern Syria

Thirteen Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants were killed on April 26 when Turkish artillery units shelled a building in the Duwaibik region to the north of Aleppo, in addition to 11 other militants killed in shellings, military sources have said.

Zarrab arrives in New York to appear in court

Reza Zarrab, an Iranian-born Turkish businessman who was arrested in Miami a month ago over attempting to evade U.S. sanctions on Iran, will appear in a New York court on April 27 following a four-leg transference journey from Miami. 

Zarrab will appear in Manhattan Federal Court at 10 a.m. before J. Richard Berman.
