Russian sanctions on Turkey to have limited effect: EBRD

10 arrested in military espionage case in ?zmir

A criminal court of peace in the Aegean city of ?zmir has ruled for the arrest of 10 suspects in a "military espionage" case in which 13 people were charged with fabricating evidence. 

The ?zmir public prosecutor had sent the 13 suspects, four of whom were security officials who exercised their right to remain silent, to court for arrest.

Turkey's prison population rises by 10 pct in one year

The number of convicts in Turkey's prisons rose by more than 10 percent from 2013 to 2014, according to data recently released by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜ?K).

The number of individuals in prison increased yearly by 10.1 percent in 2014, as the population in Turkish prisons was around 144,000 in 2013 and 158,690 in 2014, according to data released by the TÜ?K on Dec. 7.

24 terror suspects sent to court in Istanbul

A total of 24 suspected members of to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and outlawed Marxist-Leninist Communist Party (MLKP) were sent to court on Dec. 7, judicial sources said.

The suspects, including four PKK members and 20 MLKP members, were detained in two separate operations on Dec. 4 in Istanbul, police said, according to Anadolu Agency.

German industrial production inches higher in October

German industrial production increased slightly in October, driven by rising activity in the manufacturing and construction sectors, the economy ministry said on Dec. 7.

The ministry calculated that factory output increased by 0.2 percent in October compared with a month earlier, corrected for seasonal factors.
 
In September output had contracted by 1.1 percent.    

PKK attack burns historic mosque in southeast Turkey

A fire broke out in an Ottoman-era mosque in the Sur district of southeastern Diyarbak?r province on Dec. 7 when outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants reportedly attacked it with hand-made explosives.

The Fatihpa?a Mosque, which was the first Ottoman artifact in the city, caught fire as the PKK militants attacked it with hand-made explosives.
