AKP mayor attacked at his office in Bursa, remains in critical condition

The mayor of the Gürsu district in Turkey's western province of Bursa was shot at his office along with his security guard on May 20. He remains in a critical condition at hospital.

Cüneyt Y?ld?z, the mayor of Gürsu from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), was immediately taken to hospital with his guard, who is a former specialist sergeant, after the attack. 

One suspect identified in bombing of HDP branches

One suspect has been identified in the attack on two branches of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in southern Turkey, the Turkish president told reporters May 20, along with an HDP party member's eye-witness claims.

Turkey to open first satellite test center

Turkey is to open its first satellite assembly and test center on May 21, according to a statement from the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI).

The Spacecraft Assembly, Integration and Test Center, located northwest of Ankara, in Kazan, will initially test the Göktürk-1 satellite, a civil and military observation satellite to be launched in November.

Turkey second worst performer of Europe, Central Asia in human capital index

Turkey has regressed eight places in the latest Human Capital Index of the World Economic Forum (WEF). It now ranks 68 out of 124 countries and is the second worst in Europe, after Moldova, and Central Asia.

Among countries in Europe and Central Asia, Turkey and Moldova, 71, hold the last spots in the region, according to the WEF's 2015 Human Capital Report.

Woman wiretaps son, catches cheating husband

A Turkish court has decided a woman, who wiretapped her son to prove her husband's infidelity, will receive 30,000 Turkish Liras in material compensation. 

The woman, from Turkey's western province of Izmir, was suspicious that her spouse, who continuously arrived home late and insisted on getting a divorce, was being unfaithful.

Volgam G?da, which is owned by Reza Zarrab, who was embroiled in Turkey?s huge graft probe that went public in December 2013, was ranked 13 among 1,000 top exporters of the country in 2014, daily Habertürk has reported. 

Number of Turkish fighter jets on Syria border breaks record

The number of Turkish fighter jets patrolling the country's border with war-torn Syria has broken a record.

From two to six Turkish F-16s have been patrolling the Syrian border recently, but Turkey's Chief of Staff announced that the number was increased to 10 on May 19.
