Interior Minister: Over EUR 57m of European Funds for Border Protection Absorbed

Until now, EUR 57,087,659 of the EUR 160 million of European support for border protection have been absorbed, assigned and paid out, Interior Minister Valentin Radev said at a briefing on the government's programme for public order and security, Actualno.com, reported.

Illegal Import of 20 Tonnes of Pork was Stopped

Illegal imports of over 20 tons of pork were interrupted by officials of the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, Police and the Revenue Agency, the Ministry of Interior announced on Thursday.

The action was possible after a signal was given. According to preliminary data, smuggled goods entered August 6th through Ruse border checkpoint.

Serbian Customs seize EUR 200k in cash, drugs

Serbian Customs officers late on Wednesday prevented two attempts to smuggle nearly EUR 200,000 in cash illegally out of the country.

The first case happened on the border crossing Gradina with Bulgria, in the east, when two Turkish citizens in an Austrian number plates BMW X6 said they had only EUR 1,500 in cash to declare - but were found in possession of a total of EUR 165,000.

Fire breaks out east of Athens

A wildfire broke out near the Kaisariani firing range park, east of Athens, after 2 p.m. on Thursday.

At least 40 firefighters with 10 engines and two water-dropping helicopters were battling the blaze, the fire department said in a statement.

Drug use kills over 2,000 in Turkey in last 10 years

A total of 2,148 people were killed because of drug use in the last 10 years in Turkey since 2007, daily Milliyet reported on Aug. 10, citing a 2017 drug report prepared jointly by eight ministries.

Total Revenues From Nights Spent in June 2017 with 14.9% More than in June 2016

In June 2017, 2 771 accommodation establishments - hotels, motels, camping sites, mountain chalets and other establishments for short-term accommodation with more than 10 bed-places were functioned in the country, according to the National Statistical Institute (NSI).

The total number of the rooms in them was 129.1 thousand and the bed-places were 294.9 thousand.

Turkish tourism players, exporters split over public holiday for Eid al-Adha

Turkish tourism representatives and exporters are at odds over whether a public holiday for the upcoming Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) should be extended or not. 

Hoteliers have been pushing for an extension to the public holiday for Eid al-Adha to 10 days in order to help Turkey's struggling tourism sector.
