Turkey has condemned an attack on a military base in northern Afghanistan that claimed the lives of dozens of soldiers and injured many others. 

As many as 140 Afghan soldiers were killed on April 21 by Taliban attackers apparently disguised in military uniforms in what would be the deadliest attack ever on an Afghan military base, Afghan officials said.

The government of Afghanistan signed a $11.4 million contract with a Turkish company on Jan. 7 to build a prefabricated housing factory in the country, according to an Afghan media outlet.  
    

The European Union said Oct. 3 that it has struck a tentative deal with Afghanistan to take back migrants ahead of a conference in Brussels aimed at securing international financial aid for the war-ravaged nation.

Afghanistan on Sept. 22 signed a peace agreement with notorious warlord Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, paving the way for him to make a political comeback despite a history of war crimes and after years in hiding.

Explosions rang out yesterday during an hours-long attack on an international charity in Kabul, the latest assault in a wave of violence in the Afghan capital that has killed at least 24 people and wounded dozens.

Pakistan on Jan. 11 opened four-country talks aimed at luring the Afghan Taliban back to the negotiating table with the Kabul government, even as the insurgents wage an unprecedented winter campaign of violence.

If the Taliban were not so busy fighting the rival Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) jihadis who began operating in Afghanistan early this year, they might now be within reach of overthrowing the Afghan government that the Western powers left behind when they pulled out most of their troops last year. Even with that distraction, the Taliban are doing pretty well.

U.S. military personnel rammed into the gate of a medical aid group's hospital in Afghanistan last week to enter the grounds of the building hit in a U.S. air strike earlier this month, a Pentagon spokesman said on Oct. 19.

Police and residents said Afghan government forces had regained control of most of the besieged city of Kunduz on Oct.5, and some shops in the centre of the provincial capital opened for the first time since it fell to Taliban fighters a week ago. 

The Taliban claimed Oct.2 to have shot down a US military transport plane in eastern Afghanistan in a crash that killed 11 people, as the battle for Kunduz raged after the emboldened militants briefly seized the city.
