Turkey Hands Down Aggravated Life Sentences for 2016 Plotters

Akinci Air Base in Ankara was the headquarters of the plotters and the operations of the abortive coup attempt were managed there, including air strikes on civilians.

Turkey Opposition Condemns Move to Arm Night Watchmen

After night-long debates and even a fist fight, Turkey's parliament on Wednesday accepted a new bill with the votes of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's ruling coalition, which greatly expands the powers of the night watchmen, or neighbourhood guards.

They can now stop and search people if and when they see necessary, and may now carry weapons and use force.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has demanded the urgent transfer of the main opposition Republican People's Party's (CHP) shares in the lender İş Bankası to the Treasury during a recent meeting of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), daily Hürriyet reported.

Turkey Plans to Release 90,000 Non-Political Prisoners

The ruling Justice and Development Party, AKP and its junior partner, the Nationalist Movement Party, MHP, introduced a new bill to the Turkish Parliament on Tuesday aimed at releasing 90,000 prisoners.

The bill, which will be voted upon by MPs soon, will increase probation time and decrease sentences.
