The best Serbian tennis player thus missed the opportunity to match Roger Federer's record for the number of titles at the All England Club.
After losing in the final of the third Grand Slam of the season, Djokovic revealed his plans for the rest of the season.
Vondrousova won her first Grand Slam title
Czech tennis player Marketa Vondrousova defeated Ons Jabeur to become the first unseeded ladies' singles champion.
Since tennis went professional in 1968, no unseeded woman had previously appeared on the second Saturday of Wimbledon. Vondrousova was the first since Billie Jean King in 1963.

Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova said she opposed the All England Club's decision to allow Russian and Belarusian players to compete at this year's tournament.
Wimbledon last year banned players from Russia and Moscow-allied Belarus after the invasion of Ukraine and the Lawn Tennis Association also barred players from other events in the United Kingdom.

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal headline the title chase at Wimbledon where eight-time champion Roger Federer, the world's top two players as well as valuable ranking points will all be missing.
Djokovic is bidding for a seventh title at the All England Club to move level with U.S. great Pete Sampras.

Injured Osaka withdraws from Wimbledon
Former world number one Naomi Osaka pulled out of Wimbledon for the second successive year, blaming an Achilles injury.
"My Achilles still isn't right so I'll see you next time," the four-time Grand Slam title winner posted on Twitter.
