The Vice President of the European Commission Kristalina Georgieva will be on unpaid leave for one month and her functions will be taken over by Commissioner Günther Oettinger in October.

This is the decision of the President of the Commission Jean-Claude Juncker after the Bulgarian government nominated Georgieva for UN Secretary General.

New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with President of European Parliament Martin Schulz on Wednesday during his two-day visit to Brussels.

Refugee issue and the negotiations between the government and the institutions dominate the agenda of Mr. Mitsotakis meetings with political leaders in Brussels on February 17-18.

Guy Verhofstadt member of the European Parliament and leader of the group of Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) expressed his optimism talking to Europe 1 network, Friday about Greece coming up with a reliable set of measures and remaining in the Eurozone. “This morning Greece is much closer to staying in the Eurozone than leaving it”, he said.

The Liberal Reforming Party (PLR) and the Conservative Party (PC) have completed their merger negotiations, PLR Chair and Senate Speaker Calin Popescu-Tariceanu announced on Thursday. The new liberal party will be called the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE), he mentioned.
