Right-winger Petr Fiala was named the Czech Republic's new prime minister on Nov. 28 in an unusual ceremony, with wheelchair-bound President Milos Zeman speaking from behind a plastic barrier because he has COVID-19.

Another Mass Protest against Andrej Babiš in the Czech Republic
About 15,000 people, according to police, have again protested against the Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš in central Prague. A week ago, 50,000 people participated in another demonstration, BTA quoted global agencies as saying.
The protest movement is being organized by the Million Moments for Democracy civic group, which is seeking the resignation of the prime minister.

Babis's response has been to lash out at the European Union, accusing it of trying to "destabilise" the Czech Republic.
Such rhetoric might raise eyebrows in Brussels but it will come as little surprise to Czechs used to Babis's brand of populism.

The New Czech Government Lost a Vote of Confidence
The new Czech minority government, led by billionaire Andrei Babis, lost the vote of confidence vote after lawmakers rejected the populist who was accused of fraudulent EU subsidies.
"Parliament refuses to express confidence in the cabinet," said parliament speaker Radek Vondrachek.

Eurosceptic Party of Billionaire Babis Wins Elections in the Czech Republic
Without any surprise, the populist ANO party of Czech billionaire Andrei Babis (also known as the Czech Trump) won the parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic, which took place on Friday and Saturday, reports Mediapool.
The party of the 63-year-old media tycoon and former finance minister got 30.74% of the vote, Reuters reported.

The Czech Republic is set to take a Euroskeptic turn in a general election this weekend — even though the EU has hardly featured in the campaign, Politico writes.

Prague suggests status for states outside Eurozone
Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka suggested Monday that EU members like his that do not use the euro currency be granted observer status to boost mutual trust in the bloc.
Of the 28 members of the European Union, 19 also belong to the eurozone. The rest -- Britain, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Sweden -- use their own currency.
