The wreckage of an Argentine navy submarine that exploded and disappeared a year ago was located in the Atlantic Ocean Friday, the navy said, crushing any remaining hope for relatives of the 44 crew.

There is no hope of rescuing the crew members of the Argentine submarine that disappeared two weeks ago, Nova TV reported.
The navy announced it had ceased the operation to rescue the 44 people.

An Argentine navy spokesman said the rescue operation lasted twice as many days as it was believed the crew could have survived.

The missing Argentine submarine may have been located early this morning, after a US Navy aircraft allegedly detected a ‘heat stain’ from 230ft below the surface, some 185miles from the coast, and rescue vessel reported hearing a sonar signal.

Argentina Navy submarine ARA SAN JUAN disappeared in waters of Puerto Madryn, northern Patagonia, Argentina, contact with submarine manned with 40 crew lost since Nov 15. It was said that submarine was already located and taken on tow, being disabled after fire, but according to most recent news, citing Navy officials, submarine wasn’t found, her fate, and fate of the crew, unknown.
