Attica police dismantle gang behind armed robberies

Attica police said Tuesday that they had arrested four suspected members of a racket believed to have conducted several armed robberies targeting security firms making cash deliveries to banks.

Officers arrested three foreign nationals - two aged 44 and one aged 36 - as well as a 33-year-old Greek man.

Police arrest two over drug possession and transfer

Officers of the Attica police's anti-narcotics squad on Monday arrested two men over possession and transfer of drugs, during an operation in the area of Haidari, western Attica, state-run news agency ANA-MPA said.

The two suspects, aged 19 and 21, were arrested inside a car, in which police found 34 kilos and 149.7 grams of unprocessed cannabis, packed in 31 packages.

Greek police announces outreach day

The Hellenic Police (ELAS) has decided to schedule a monthly open day when citizens can voice their concerns and questions regarding law and order issues.

The initiative, which will take place at Attica Police Headquarters (173 Alexandras, Athens) from 2 p.m. until midnight on the last Thursday of every month, is aimed at building a close bond of trust between the force and citizens.

The leader of the far-left Popular Unity party Panayiotis Lafazanis said on Wednesday he refused to provide answers to investigators after he was summoned to Attica Police Headquarters over his alleged illegal possession and use of a gun during protests against foreclosures on the properties of overindebted Greeks.

The leader of the far-left Popular Unity party Panagiotis Lafazanis has been summoned by Attica police authorities to answer charges of illegal gun use and possession.

The summons is part of a wider investigation ordered by an Athens prosecutor into protests against foreclosures on the properties of overindebted Greeks.

Eight arrested in Attica drug bust

Attica police said on Wednesday that they have broken up a wide-reaching drug distribution network and made eight arrests.

The eight suspects - five Albanian nationals and three Greeks - were arrested in a police operation that spread across the city. Reports said the leader of the gang was a 35-year-old Albanian man.
