Bank deposits outflow spikes in response to statements and fears

Greek banks are suffering from fresh turbulence due to the tension and the apparent collision course between Athens and its creditors. Bank stocks gave up more than 8 percent of their value on Wednesday, while the outflow of deposits was far greater than on previous days.

Greece must pay tranche for derivative on Friday
Payments on a swap originally arranged by Goldman Sachs Group Inc in 2001 are due on Friday, said a person familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified publicly.
The derivative, now held by the National Bank of Greece, masked the country?s growing debt, helping it meet European Union rules for entering the euro area.

Tsipras promises no wage delays as state finances wilt
Greece has slipped back into deficit so far this year, according to figures from the Bank of Greece. But the country's left-wing Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras ruled out any difficulties in making payments for public sector workers' salaries or state-backed pensions.

The Greek state is not facing a cash shortage, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras insisted Sunday as his government braced for another week of pressing debt repayments.
"There is absolutely no problem with liquidity," Tsipras told reporters after a meeting Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis.
