Prime Minister Boyko Borisov will open the first Plovdiv Economic Forum. Its organizers are the Athens-based Delphic Economic Forum and the Center for Liberal Strategies in Sofia. The focus of the discussions is political, economic and intellectual issues, as well as the challenges facing Bulgaria, the region and Europe.

Low incomes do not prevent Bulgaria from joining the Eurozone's "waiting room" and later the eurozone itself. This was stated in an interview with the Bulgarian National Radio "Horizon" by the Commissioner for the Euro and Social Dialogue Valdis Dombrovskis.

Bulgaria will seek to join both the eurozone's waiting room and the bloc's banking union within a year, Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov said on Tuesday (12 June).

The Bulgarian Presidency today concluded 18 months of negotiations between EU Member States in the Council by reaching a deal on the Banking package that paves the way for completing the Banking Union.

A report by the European Commission published on Wednesday said Bulgaria was not ready to adopt the common European currency.

Following assessments on the country's legal compatibility and its fulfilment of the convergence criteria, "the Commission considers that Bulgaria does not fulfil the conditions for the adoption of the euro," it said.

The head of the EuroGroup, Jeroen Dijsselbloem disclosed the content of the April 7 Malta EuroGroup agreement between Greece and its creditors. The European Commission proposed on Tuesday a euro-area wide insurance scheme for bank deposits.
