The first half of the regular season concluded on Monday with arguably the best game in the Basket League so far, as Panathinaikos beat high-flying Lavrio in the second overtime to preserve its perfect record.

Panathinaikos edged even closer to clinching the top spot in the regular season of the Basket League after ending AEK's unbeaten home record on Sunday.

PAOK scored its biggest win in years as it defeated the Euroleague's joint leader Olympiakos in the Greek league on Sunday, with Panathinaikos, that extended its unbeaten record in the Basket League, effectively sealing the top spot of the regular season.

Panathinaikos narrowly escaped a huge upset at Kolossos on New Year's Eve, managing to preserve its perfect record after 10 rounds of games in the regular season of the Basket League, while Lavrio triumphed over PAOK to go alone in third.

The impressive thumping of Aris by Kymi and the first win in the season by Panionios stood out among the results of the ninth round of games of the Basket League. Yet in the most important match of the weekend PAOK thrashed AEK to confirm it is on its way up.

AEK upset Olympiakos at home on Sunday to allow Panathinaikos, victor of Aris in Thessaloniki, to open a two-point gap at the top of the Basket League. The Greens are already huge favorites for the top spot of the regular season.

The triumph of Lavrio over AEK, the mauling of Aris by Promitheas and the return of Vassilis Spanoulis stood out in the weekend's action at the Basket League.

Chris Singleton had a tremendous game for Panathinaikos on Sunday as the Greens' preserved their perfect record at bottom club Kymi.

The US forward scored 35 points in just 23 minutes with 5/6 free throws, 6/7 two-pointers and 6/8 triples, along with six rebounds and three assists, to become the Most Valuable Player of the Basket League for the weekend.

Panathinaikos is alone on top of the Basket League after defeating hitherto unbeaten Promitheas Patras 96-64 on Monday, while the Basketball Champions League obligations appear to take their tool on Greece's participants, who suffered in the local championship.

A buzzer-beating triple by experienced Panayiotis Vassilopoulos gave Aris an away win at Lavrio in the weekend's most exciting game in the Basket League, as Panathinaikos and Promitheas extended their perfect record.
