Ex-PSD leader Dragnea stays in jail, after court refuses to grant him parole

The Bucharest Court on Thursday rejected Liviu Dragnea's request to be granted parole and be released from the Rahova Penitentiary, where he is executing a sentence of three years and a half received in 2019, in the case concerning the fictitious hiring at the GDASPC Teleorman. The decision is final, and Dragnea has the right to make a new request for parole after August 27.

Former Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Liviu Dragnea has been sent to court by prosecutors of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) in a new case, in which he is accused of influence peddling and use of influence or authority in connection with his presence at the inauguration ceremony of President Donald Trump at the beginning of 2017.

Three of the policemen accused of torture, in preventive custody

Joke Parties Flourish After Law Change in Romania

Romania has recorded a surge in the number of new parties following a change to the law, many of which appear to have been established for frivolous purposes, including satire.

Some 88 new parties were officially registered last year alone, while 40 other requests were rejected, according to data from the courts in Bucharest.
