Bulgarian President Remains Hopeful of South Stream

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev expressed hope that the South Stream project would receive the necessary permits for its completion.

Plevneliev said in an interview for Czech daily Lidove Noviny, that Bulgaria has not yet received an official statement from Russia on the cancellation of the project, Darik radio reports.

Yonko Grozev Elected as Bulgaria's Judge to ECHR

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) elected Yonko Grozev as a judge to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in respect of Bulgaria on Tuesday.

Grozev was elected with an absolute majority for a non-renewable term of nine years, winning 108 out of the 202 votes that were cast in total.

Bulgaria Foresees New Investments for Municipalities Hosting Refugees

Bulgarian municipalities with refugee accommodation centers and those involved in integration programmes will receive significant subsidies.

This was announced by the chief secretary of the State Agency for Refugees (DAB) Zlatko Aleksandrov on Thursday, daily Standart reports.

Aleksandrov explained that the funding will be mainly allocated to infrastructure projects.

World Bank's Murthi In Bulgaria To Discuss Economic Growth Prospects

The World Bank said on Friday Bulgaria could meet and even exceed economic growth forecasts this year.

The Bank will assist Bulgaria's efforts to bolster economic growth, the Country Director for Central Europe and the Baltic Countries Ms Mamta Murthi said after talks with Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov in Sofia, according to the government's press office.

Mayor of Bulgaria's Haskovo Proposes Gated Refugee Camps

Harmanli Mayor Hristo Liskov has sent a letter to Bulgarian PM and all political parties in Parliament. He has stated that the temporary refugee camp in the city should become gated.

The letter specifies 10 cases of incidents of criminal nature serving as justification for the proposal, as reported by Mediapool news website.
