Bulgarians Honour St Anthony

The Bulgarian Orthodox Church honours Friday the memory of the Venerable Anthony the Great, on the holiday called Antonovden.

Anthony was born in about 250 AD in Egypt. During his life he spent 20 years in complete solitude in the desert. Sick and suffering people came to him for help.

Bulgarian Orthodox Church Marks the Assumption of Mary

On the 15th of August, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church celebrates the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, reports BNT. 

The day, also known as the Dormition of the Holy Mother of God, is one of the twelve great feasts in the church calendar. Festive liturgies will be held in all temples across the country.

550 Years since the Return of Relics of St. Ivan of Rila to Rila Monastery in Bulgaria

Bulgaria's Rila Monastery on July 1 marks 550 years since the return of the relics of St. Ivan of Rila from the old capital of Veliko Turnovo to the Holy Monastery. The commemorative event took place in 1469. A lot of believers and pilgrims arrive from the country and abroad, some of whom came to the monastery days ago, writes BNT. 

Love is the Theme at Twelfth Sofia Pride

The LGBTI community in Sofia and its supporters took to the streets of the Bulgarian capital on Saturday in a colourful celebration of diversity, despite a backlash from conservative "pro-family" groups and homophobic political forces.

The 2019 Pride, which is the twelfth such event to take place in the country, went ahead under the motto "Empower love, not hate".

Today is Spasovden!

Тhe Bulgarian Orthodox Church honors today the Ascension of the Lord, also called Spasovden. It is always celebrated on Thursday, the 40th day after the Resurrection of Christ - Easter.

According to the New Testament, 40 days after his resurrection, Jesus Christ remained on earth to preach his study and talk to the apostles.
