A midday emergency landing at Sofia Airport has been reported today, reportedly due to the tragic death of a British citizen aboard the aircraft. The incident occurred on a Pegasus Airlines flight from Izmir, Turkey, destined for London Stansted Airport.

In an interview with the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency, Chief Secretary Zhivko Kotsev of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported a 3.7% decrease in overall crime compared to last year. Notably, crimes against persons, car thefts, and property theft have seen a decline, while crimes solved have increased by 3%.

"A positive decision on the enlargement of Schengen with Bulgaria and Romania should be expected by the end of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU, which ends by the end of the year." This was stated by the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola.

Bulgarian Parliament has launched a procedure to elect a new General Director of the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency after the death of Maxim Minchev.

The deadline for nominating candidates by MPs is January 15.

The candidates will be checked for affiliation with the State security services and the intelligence services of the Bulgarian People's Army during the communist regime.
