Turkey's National Intelligence Agency (MİT) has held a meeting with the CIA's new director, Mike Pompeo, about the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), widely believed to be the orchestrators of the July 2016 failed coup attempt, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said.

As expected, new CIA Director Mike Pompeo's recent visit has made the headlines of the Turkish press. Pompeo is not only the head of world's most famous spy agency, he is also a perfect example of U.S. President Donald Trump's favorite kind of operator. 

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence told Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım over the phone on Feb. 9 that Turkish-U.S. relations were entering a "new day," as the new director of the CIA, Mike Pompeo, was also in Ankara as part of his first overseas trip since taking office. 

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence and Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım agreed over the phone on Feb. 9 to increase cooperation between the two countries, according to a prime ministry source.        

During the call, Pence described Turkish-U.S. relations as entering a "new day," the source said.
