China shuts down its consulate in İzmir amid Uighur row

Chinese Embassy to Turkey has announced that the country's general-consulate in Izmir was closed as of Feb. 28 due to general arrangements with regard to consular activities. The move comes amid an ongoing row between Ankara and Beijing over the Uighur problem in which the former has harshly criticized Chinese government of assimilating the Muslim Turkic minority.

A pro-Uighur group outside the Thai Embassy in Ankara has attempted to lynch an Asian tourist, assuming that the woman is Chinese. 

One day after a group of protestors vandalized the Thai Consulate in Istanbul over the repatriation of 200 Uighurs from Thailand to China, another group staged a demonstration in front of the Thai Embassy in Turkey's capital Ankara on July 9.

Chinese Consortium to Invest BGN 20 M in Bulgaria's Karlovo

A Chinese venture is planning to invest in production of probiotics and synbiotics in the Bulgarian town of Karlovo, municipal officials have revealed.

Local authorities signed on June 6 a preliminary agreement with the consortium, and details are due to be clarified later this month, Karlovo Municipal Council Chairman Stoyo Karagenski was quoted by Dariknews.bg as saying.
