Right-winger Petr Fiala was named the Czech Republic's new prime minister on Nov. 28 in an unusual ceremony, with wheelchair-bound President Milos Zeman speaking from behind a plastic barrier because he has COVID-19.
Merkel visits Turkey before leaving office
German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived in Turkey on Oct. 16 for talks with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan before leaving office after 16 years in power.
Merkel on arrived at the Huber Mansion in Istanbul to meet with Erdoğan.
Merkel and Erdoğan boarded a golf cart and visited the beach area of the mansion.

Babiš's Party Lost the Elections in the Czech Republic
The winner of the October 8th and 9th parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic was the opposition alliance "Together", which includes the Civil Democratic Party, the Christian Democrats and the Tradition, Responsibility, Prosperity 09 party, according to the final results after counting 100% of the ballots.
Germany's Merkel to visit Turkey next week
German Chancellor Angela Merkel will visit Turkey on Oct. 16 to discuss bilateral relations and international issues, her spokesman said on Oct. 8.
Speaking at a news conference in Berlin, Steffen Seibert said Merkel will visit Istanbul for talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

18 lawmakers of Turkish descent win seat in Germany’s Bundestag
Eighteen candidates of Turkish descent have been elected as lawmakers in Germany's federal parliament, Bundestag, in the country's elections that took place on Sept. 26.
The Social Democratic Party (SPD) won the most parliamentary seats in the national elections, while Angela Merkel's conservative CDU/CSU bloc came in second, preliminary official results showed on Sept. 27.

"The governing body of Fidesz has decided to leave the EPP Group immediately," Prime Minister Viktor Orban wrote in a letter to Manfred Weber, chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament.
