Necktie professionals and farmers stage protests around Greece

On Thursday, more than 6,000 white-collar professionals staged a protest rally against proposed pension reforms called for by the country’s creditors. Lawyers, doctors, pharmacists, engineers and other self-employed professionals marched while waving their neckties and decorating these on a tree of ties outside Greek Parliament.

ADEDY to hold 24h strike on December 3

Civil Servants Confederation (ADEDY) decided to participate in a 24-hour strike on December 3 following the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) and PAME (Labour Union affiliated to the Communist Party).

The labour unions will protest against the reforms in the social security system that will be tabled on December in Greek Parliament.

Greece is on its first strike since the Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) came into power in January. During Thursday’s 24-hour strike there will be disruptions to public services, museums and archeological sites, schools and pharmacies, while public transport will be disrupted, ferries will remain tied up at ports and hospitals will function with emergency staff.
