Historic Chinese church gutted by fire: Xinhua
A fire largely destroyed one of China's oldest churches early Monday, state media reported, gutting the inside of the late 19th century structure.
"The inside of the building is totally destroyed," a firefighter told the official Xinhua news agency after the blaze at the gothic-style Jiangbei Cathedral in Ningbo, in Zhejiang province.

Both camps claim victory after debate on PPC vote
Both Greeces conservative-led government and the leftist opposition claimed victory on Thursday after the Parliaments summer session rejected proposals for a debate regarding a possible referendum on plans to sell part of Public Power Corporation (PPC), the nations biggest power producer, to a private competitor in 2015.

Parl't rejects opposition proposal for debate on referendum on PPC selloff
Parliament's summer session on Friday rejected proposals by Greek opposition parties for a debate on a referendum about the partial privatization of the Public Power Corporation.
Christos Markoyiannakis, who was presiding over the session, said the proposals had not garnered the support of a minimum of 120 MPs and so could not be approved.

Golden Dawn spokesman remanded in pretrial custody
The spokesman for ultranationalist Golden Dawn, Ilias Kasidiaris (photo, right), was remanded in pretrial custody on Thursday by the special magistrates investigating whether the party constitutes a criminal organization.
He was remanded on charges of illegal weapons possession with the intent to supply a criminal organization.
