Turkish Constitutional Court rejects CHP's appeal to annul decree laws

The Constitutional Court has rejected the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP)'s appeal for the annulment of decree laws issued by the government since the declaration of a state of emergency after the failed July 15 coup attempt.

The court rejected the appeal on the grounds of non-competence.

Turkey imposes heavier sentences for sexual abuse of children under 12

The Turkish government has drafted a bill to increase sentences issued for the sexual abuse of children, introducing gradual punishments on offenses against children under 12, in line with a Constitutional Court demand that the government regulate legal measures to be imposed on convicts.

Freed sexual abuse convict re-arrested upon prosecutor's objection

A sexual abuse convict, who was freed despite being sentenced to over 16 years behind bars after an Istanbul court cited a Constitutional Court annulment narrowing the punishment scope of such abuse offenses, has been re-arrested by the same court after the prosecutor objected to the ruling.

Parliament opens with coup attempt on agenda

The new legislative year of the Turkish parliament is set to kick off on Oct. 1, as debate on decree laws issued under the state of emergency are expected to dominate the agenda. 
The Turkish parliament, which has been on summer recess since Aug. 20, will convene at 3 p.m. under the leadership of Parliament Speaker İsmail Kahraman.
