Machu Picchu protesters block tourist train tracks
Visitors to Peru's iconic Machu Picchu site were met Thursday by protesters angry with the government for privatizing ticket sales at the Inca citadel.
Tour operators and residents closed shops in protest and blocked the tracks of a tourist train, compelling those on board to walk the remaining three kilometers (1.8 miles) to the entrance.

Aqueduct, treasure trove found in ‘lost’ city of Tenea
Part of the Hadrianic aqueduct, one of the largest hydraulic works of the 2nd century AD in Greece, has been unearthed in the "lost" city of ancient Tenea, as well as part of a prehistoric settlement dating to the Early Bronze Age II (2600-2300 BC).
Museum housing shackled skeletons on track
The Culture Ministry has announced that a tender will be completed in the next few months for the selection of the contractor who will construct the museum/shell that will protect and showcase an ancient mass grave discovered in 2016 during digging at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center at Phaleron (present-day Faliro) Delta, south of Athens.

Acropolis guards on a 24-hour warning strike on Tuesday to protest the Culture Ministry's decision to privatize ticket issuance and entry control services through a bidding process. The protesters deemed it a "transfer of public funds to private entities."

Italian archaeologists have uncovered a luxurious Roman home near the Colosseum, boasting an "unparalleled" mosaic featuring shells, marble and precious glass, the Culture Ministry said on Dec. 12.
Peru boosts Machu Picchu access up to 5,600 visitors a day
Peru is sharply boosting access to its top attraction Machu Picchu, officials said on Dec. 2, in an effort to revive tourism that has yet to rebound from the pandemic.
Access to the Inca citadel has been increased to 4,500 per day "and on very specific dates may be increased to 5,600" from January 1, a Culture Ministry statement said.
Preserving the ancient craft of wooden ships
The curricula and manuals of vocational training and apprenticeships at the facility that will specialize in the craft of building wooden ships will be presented in early December, the Culture Ministry has announced.
The goal of the facility is to preserve a tradition that continues to be practiced in old shipyards, such as the one depicted here in Ierissos, Halkidiki.

Archaeologists, Culture Ministry lock horns
The Culture Ministry's recent decision to evict the Association of Greek Archaeologists (SEA) from the building on 134-136 Ermou Street which has been its home since 1982, is the latest episode in a long dispute between the union and the ministry.
