Electricity theft, lack of investments threaten power grid, report says
Electricity theft cost more than 260 million euros a year to consumers and continues to rise, Greece's power distribution agency DEDDIE said in a report on Wednesday.
Power cuts in central Athens
Stores, businesses and houses around the Greek capital's main Syntagma square and Athens' Cathedral were left without electricity on Monday morning due to a breakdown at a public power utility's (PPC) substation.
Greece's power distribution agency DEDDIE said it was working to restore electricity which is expected at about 11:30 a.m.

Households and businesses in east Thessaloniki were hit by a power outage that started early Thursday morning due to a breakdown in two underground power transformers.

DEDDIE becomes latest target of anarchist group
Self-proclaimed anarchist group Rouvikonas damaged the offices of Greece's power distribution agency DEDDIE in central Athens on Friday afternoon.
Members of the group threw paint and pelted windows with stones to protest against a "power cut spree" by power utility PPC over the past months, according to a post by Rouvikonas on an anti-establishment website later in the day.

Hania region facing power cuts; two small bridges collapse
The Cretan region of Hania faced severe power cuts throughout Monday and two small bridges collapsed, due to the heavy storms and strong winds affecting the island.
The National Observatory of Athens said some of its local weather stations have recorded more than 250 millimeters of rain.
