Cardiff – Slovenian boxer Ema Kozin lost against American Claressa Shields on Saturday evening in Cardiff, UK in a fight for the world champion title in a number of categories in the female middleweight class. This is Kozin’s first defeat of her professional fighting career.

Ljubljana – The Slovenian Book Agency (JAK) signed a EUR 4.5 million contract in August to finance Slovenia’s participation in the 2023 Frankfurt Book Fair from cohesion funds, JAK’s acting director Dimitrij Rupel told the newspaper Delo on Saturday.

Ljubljana – Fraport Slovenija, the company managing the Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport, will get a new head next month, as the term of Zmago Skobir expires at the end of September. He will be succeeded by Babett Stapel, who is currently serving as managing director, Fraport Slovenija told the STA. Skobir will remain a procurator and adviser to the management.

Ljubljana – Education officials would like to see in-person learning in the new academic year, said the Education Ministry after Wednesday’s meeting with head teachers, who lament a lack of concrete guidelines. The ministry has urged the government to green-light self-testing for teachers.

Ljubljana – A chamber representing small businesses has called on the government to scrap the requirement of frequent testing of staff who have not been vaccinated or have not recovered from Covid-19, saying in any event the cost of testing should be covered by the state. Meanwhile, an exec of the chamber representing large companies favours the PCT rule.

Ljubljana – Former Environment Minister Jure Leben is returning to politics to launch the Party of Green Action (Z.DEJ), whose founding congress will be held online on Saturday. In conceiving the manifesto, the main question was how to find a balance between industrial development and environment protection, he told the newspaper Delo.

Ljubljana – Police Commissioner Anton Olaj, who took over in late January, told the newspaper Delo in an interview run on Saturday there were indications some police investigations had been politically motivated.

Olaj would not elaborate on details of politically motivated investigations in the police but he noted that the success of criminal procedure depended most on prosecution.

"Hisens's takeover bid has been accepted by 94 percent of Gorenje shareholders," Igor Stemberger, director of the Ilirika brokerage that is managing the sale process, told Slovenian newspaper Delo.

This means they will be able to push out the remaining shareholders, which would enable them to manage the company more easily, assesses the newspaper.
