Macedonia Parliament OKs Caretaker Govt

Lawmakers from the ruling parties on Monday gave the thumbs up on an interim Macedonian government, local media report.

The caretaker cabinet, which is to help the country prepare for early elections on April 24, was approved by lawmakers from the main ruling VMRO-DPMNE and its coalition partner in the previous government, the ethnic Albanian Democratic Union for Integration (DUI).

Macedonian Party Leaders Start Meeting to Resolve Crisis

The leaders of the four biggest political parties in Macedonia have started a meeting in a bid to start a dialogue aimed at defusing the political tensions, MIA news agency reported on Thursday.

US Ambassador to Macedonia Jess Baily and the head of the EU Delegation in Skopje Aivo Orav are attending the meeting as observers.

SKOPJE -- Two parties representing ethnic Serbs in Macedonia will have deputies in the country's new parliament, elected on Sunday.

One of them - the Democratic Party of Serbs in Macedonia - "will almost certainly join the ruling majority," the Beta news agency is reporting.

Macedonia's President, Ruling Party Tipped to Win Elections

Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov is set to win a second term, while his ruling VMRO-DPMNE is likely to stay in power after Sunday's 2-in-1 elections.

Ivanov has won 505.687 votes, and the ballots cast for his main rival socialist Stevo Pendarovski has been 372.886 after the counting of results in 95% of polling stations.
