Bulgaria: Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel discussed Bulgaria’s EU Agenda with Von der Leyen

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel held a meeting with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels. The Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister is on a working visit to the Belgian capital.

"Today's meeting makes me optimistic that our Schengen admission process, which could not be completed at the end of last year, will be finalized at the beginning of the second half of this year." This was said by Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev after a meeting with Greek Migration and Asylum Minister Notis Mitarachi.

Von der Leyen in Skopje: The Macedonian Language and Identity are Recognized by the EU

North Macedonia must take a step forward towards the European Union, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told the Macedonian parliament ahead of a meeting where lawmakers are debating the so-called "French proposal" to start EU negotiations.

Von der Leyen concluded her address to the Macedonian MPs with a quote from the late President Boris Trajkovski:

"We will not be granted EU membership until we resolve relations with Pristina" VIDEO

She attended the ceremony marking the launch of works on the modernization and rehabilitation of the Nis-Brestovac railway on the international railway Corridor 1, and referred to the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, i.e. on Kosovo and Metohija. The ceremony was also attended by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vui.

Von der Leyen will stay in Serbia for two days, while on Thursday she will meet with Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic.
President of the European Commission began her Balkan tour with a visit to Tirana on Tuesday, ahead of the EU-Western Balkans Summit on October 6th. After Tirana, von der Leyen also visited North Macedonia.
