Thursday is the deadline by which the envelopes with the vote of Romanians abroad must reach the vote-by-mail Electoral Bureau, the diplomatic mission or the consular office, and those to arrive after this date will be considered void. A number of 39,244 Romanians settled in over 100 countries opted to vote by mail in the December 6 parliamentary elections.

Bucharest, May 25 /Agerpres/ - The total number of people enrolled in the Electoral Register is 18,987,675 persons, of which 18,835 have their voting rights revoked.

Central Electoral Bureau spokesperson Marian Muhulet told AGERPRES the Bureau did not receive any proposition from the Foreign Affairs Ministry to extend the voting hours in the polling stations abroad.

'We did not receive anything so far, it might have sent it to the Electoral Bureau No. 48 [for the polling stations abroad],' he mentioned.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) mentions that only 300 people out of the 800 proposed to complete the staff of the polling stations abroad will be from the ministry's headquarters; the remaining personnel is already abroad.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assigned approximately 800 employees for the polling stations abroad, to assist the second round of the presidential election, a ministry's release informed AGERPRES on Sunday.

The final results released by the Electoral Bureau on Tuesday confirmed that Romania's Prime Minister, Victor Ponta, won last Sunday's first round of the presidential election with 40.44 per cent of the votes cast.

The Romanian voters living abroad can use the form of the declaration on their own responsibility that they had not already cast a vote in the presidential runoff on Nov.

Ponta, who is also the leader of the ruling Social Democrat Party, PSD, won 40.01 per cent of the vote in the presidential polls, according to preliminary results released by the Electoral Bureau on Monday morning, after nine-tenths of the ballots were counted.

Electoral Bureau 48 for the overseas polling stations says in a press release issued on Sunday that extending the voting hours is not under its authority.
