The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission will not Allow a Sharp Increase in Electricity Prices

The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (KEVR) will not allow a sharp increase in electricity prices. This was stated by the commission at an extraordinary briefing.

The three electricity distribution companies in Bulgaria - CEZ, EVN and North Electricity, announced that they want new electricity prices.

Energy and Water Regulator Rethinks Water Rate Hike

The planned rise in water price has been recalculated. The decision was made in a closed sitting of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission on 20 December. There will be an increase in the prices of water in 14 regions, but it will be less than originally planned.

The planned price hike sparked a wave of protests, including a public protest outside the building of the regulator.

''The decision of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (KEVR) to increase the cost of water is illegal and this can be proven in the court.'' That was what Ombudsman Maya Manolova announced in the show "This Morning". 

She will address today the Supreme Administrative Prosecutor's Office, where she will present her analysis.

The Price of Water is Rising in 14 Regions of the Country

The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission finally confirmed the new water prices in 14 districts - Sofia, Pernik, Montana, Vratsa, Plovdiv, Smolyan, Kardzhali, Rousse, Silistra, Shumen, Varna, Burgas, Sliven and Yambol. The main reason for the increase of the cost of the service is the need for investments in the water supply network, the regulator explains.
