Petro Poroshenko Elected New Ukrainian President – Exit Polls

According to exit polls, confectionery tycoon Petro Poroshenko wins 55% of the votes in Ukraine’s presidential elections.

The elections were marked with low turnout in the eastern part of the country, where polling stations were closed in many places by the pro-Russian separatists.

Former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko comes far behind in second place with 12.8%.

Real Madrid Wins the Champions League

Real Madrid won the Champions League for the 10th time thanks to extra time goals from Gareth Bale, Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo to beat Atletico Madrid 4-1 in Lisbon on Saturday. 

Atletico Madrid had an advantage of 1:0 for most of the game, but in the 93rd minute Sergio Ramos scored and took the game into extra time. 

Lone Gunman Kills Six People in Santa Barbara, California

A gunman has killed six people in drive-by shootings in the Californian city of Santa Barbara, Friday night.

The shootings took place near the University of California-Santa Barbara, where two-thirds of the residents are students, the BBC reports.

Seven more people were wounded late on Friday in the town of Isla Vista near the campus of the University.

Ukraine Prepares for Presidential Elections, Declares Day of Silence

Ukraine has began a Day of silence on May 24, a day before the early presidential elections scheduled for Sunday, according to international media reports.

On the same day, elections of mayors will be held in seven regional centers - Kiev, Nikolaev, Odessa, Sumy, Kherson, Cherkassy and Chernovtsy.
