Turkish Cypriot leader points to rise of far right in southern Cyprus

Turkish Cypriot President Ersin Tatar said May 31 there was a significant increase in votes for the far-right ultra-nationalist National Popular Front (ELAM) in the latest legislative elections in the Greek Administration of Southern Cyprus (GASC). 

The leader of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) was speaking to Anadolu Agency on the results of the polls held Sunday.

Turkey slams 'offensive stamp' by Geek Cyprus

Turkey's ruling party spokesman on April 2 condemned the Greek Cypriot administration stamp commemorating the 65th anniversary of the EOKA terror group.

"We condemn the Greek Cypriot administration for printing a stamp commemorating the 65th anniversary of the EOKA terrorist organization," said Ömer Çelik, spokesman for the AKP on Twitter.

More allegations are piling up in an ongoing case in the UK against British forces, who are accused of torture and even rape during the Greek Cypriot insurgency between 1955 and 1959.

An elderly Cypriot woman, who was suspected of being an EOKA member when she was 15, says she was arrested in her home in 1956 and later tortured in the hands of British interrogators.
