The EU Council announced on Tuesday that it has adopted a regulation for creating an EU emergency support mechanism that will help Greece and other member states which are under pressure from large numbers of refugees arriving in their territory.

Greek Cyprus on March 15 ruled out consenting to an expedition of Turkey's long-stalled talks to enter the European Union, unless Ankara fulfilled its obligations to recognize the island. 

The United Nations refugee agency has said it is concerned with some aspects of the EU-Turkey plan for resolving the migrant crisis. 

An agreement was reached on Friday evening between the EU and the United Kingdom in Brussels, amid fears Britons could vote to leave the union in a forthcoming referendum.

The responsibility for re-energizing Turkey's accession process will belong to the European Union even in the event that the ongoing Cyprus talks fail to produce a breakthrough, Turkey's EU minister has said, asking the bloc to keep its promises toward Ankara.

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras ended his visit to migrant and refugee hotspots being set up at the Aegean islands of Chios and Leros on Wednesday with a vow to shift the pressure that the European union has put on Greece regarding the refugee crisis back onto the country’s EU partners at the EU Council of leaders in Brussels on Thursday and Friday.

Top Turkish and German leaders have discussed the upcoming mini-summit that will take place between Turkey and eight EU countries on Dec. 17 in Brussels, where they will discuss how to best handle the growing refugee crisis.
