Greek teams produced a patchy record on the opening night of the Europa League group stage on Thursday, as PAOK thrashed Dynamo Minsk, Asteras Tripolis snatched a draw at Besiktas and Panathinaikos lost at home to Dynamo Moscow.

As the Europa League starts its 48-team group phase on Sept. 18, Turkey’s Beşiktaş is preparing to host Asteras Tripoli, a first ever Greek match-up for the Istanbul side.

Following Thursday night’s high, when all three Greek teams competing in the Europa League made it into the group stage of the competition, a harsh reality struck Friday as they found out who they will be facing next.

Beşiktaş will have another trip to London along with a double journey to the Balkans, while Trabzonspor is named in a relatively comfortable group as the Europa League group stage draws were made Aug. 29.

Partizan FC Serbia's only club in European competitions

BAKU, BELGRADE -- Partizan FC from Belgrade beat Azerbaijan's Neftci 2-1 on their home turf in Baku in the second match of the last qualifying round of UEFA's Europa League.

There was a triple success for Greek soccer on Thursday as PAOK, Panathinaikos and Asteras Tripolis made it through to the Europa League group stage.

PAOK had a challenging task after a 1-0 defeat in the first leg of its playoff tie to Zimbru Chisinau in Moldova. But the Thessaloniki side made light work of its visitors, winning Thursday's match 4-0.

BAKU - Fans of FC Neftchi from Baku, Azerbaijan, have stoned the bus that was taking the players of FC Partizan from Belgrade, Serbia back to their hotel after a training session.

The Serbian team was stunned by the incident on Wednesday, but fortunately no one was harmed, the media in Belgrade have reported.
