Sales of new cars jumped last month in Europe, surpassing the level of one million for the first time since June 2021, according to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association published on Wednesday.

New car registrations hit 1,087,939 in March, an increase of 28.8 percent from the same month last year.

Electric cars remain an unaffordable luxury for the majority of Greeks and Europeans in general, as in spite of state subsidies, which were also provided in Greece, the purchase cost is in some cases even double that of a conventional car.

Sales of electric vehicles set a new record for market share in the European Union in 2022, industry data shows, as the region moves to wean itself off fossil fuel-powered cars.

Battery electric cars account for 12.1% of new car sales, compared to 9.1% in 2021 and 1.9% in 2019, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).

Greece has the oldest fleet of passenger cars in the European Union, with an average age of 17 years, when the EU average is 12 years, according to data published by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) up to the year 2021.

Estonia has the second oldest passenger car fleet (16.8 years) followed by the Czech Republic (15.6).

EU auto sales slumped by 14 percent in the first half of this year, data showed on July 15, as supply shortages continued to plague manufacturers.

With the lack of computer chips still hobbling production, new auto sales slumped to 4.6 million in the European Union, data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association showed.

New passenger car registrations in Bulgaria in May 2021 added up to 1989, an increase of 76.5 per cent compared with May 2020, according to figures released on June 17 by ACEA, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association.

Overall in 2019, new-car registrations increased by 1.2% across the European Union, reaching more than 15.3 million units in total and marking the sixth consecutive year of growth. The year started on weak footing due to the lasting impact of the introduction of the WLTP test in September 2018.

SOFIA (Bulgaria), July 17 (SeeNews) - New passenger car registrations in Bulgaria rose by an annual 22.6% to 18,082 in the first half of the year, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association, ACEA, said on Tuesday.

In June, alone, new passenger car registrations in Bulgaria increased by an annual 11.9%, reaching 3,586, ACEA said in a press release.

Greece has one of the oldest vehicle fleets in the European Union in all categories  - passenger cars, light trucks and busses - with the average age reaching 13.5 years in 2015, according to data on that year from the  European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).

Registrations of new light commercial vehicles in Bulgaria rose by 18.5% year-on-year to 326 in January, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association, ACEA, said on Thursday.

Data on registrations of medium and heavy commercial vehicles, buses and coaches in Bulgaria was not available.
